Bayelsa polls shooting at Ekeremor town disrupts voting

As Bayelsans go to the polls in today’s re-run

gubernatorial election in Southern Ijaw and
some polling units in six other local government
areas, sporadic gunfire has reportedly erupted
in Ekeremor town of Ekeremor LGA.
According to Leadership, election in the town
had been put on hold as political hoodlums
have overpowered security agents and taken
over security. In the same vein, a standoff has
also reportedly occurred between members of
the Joint Task Force (JTF) and political thugs
loyal to one of the frontline political parties in
the election in Amassoma Grammar School in
Southern Ijaw LGA.
The political thugs, it was gathered, attempted
to hijack election materials meant for some
units in the ward when they were accosted by
the JTF. Reports say at least four have them
have been apprehended and their operational
vehicle seized by the JTF.
