Too bad as No Nigerian airport certified by ICAO
Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation
Authority (NCAA), Capt. Mukhtar Usman, has
pledged the commitment of the authority to get
at least the four major international airports in
the country certified by the International Civil
Aviation Organization (ICAO).
According to him, presently no Nigerian airport
including the Murtala Mohammed Airport and
Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport has been
certified. The airports, according to the DG,
were undergoing the process of
certification. However, Usman explained that
the non-certification of the airports does not
mean they were unsafe.
“Our airports are safe, our airspace is also safe.
The regulatory agency is up and doing”, the DG
said in an interview culled from the current
edition of the Regulator.
He explained, “As it is now, none of the Airports
have been certified. They are all undergoing the
process of certification. We are concentrating
more on Lagos and Abuja for now, but then the
target is to certify at least the four major
international airports”.
These are Lagos, Abuja, Mallam Aminu Kano
International Airport, Kano and PortHarcourt
International Airport, Port Harcourt, Rivers
State.
