Variable bounce the key for South Africa - Bavuma
South Africa's Temba Bavuma believes the
hosts need to exploit the variable bounce in the pitch in order to wrap up victory in the fourth and final Test with England at Centurion.
The Proteas, who have already lost the four-match
series, are seven wickets away from triumph following a dominant fourth day.
Bavuma's unbeaten 78 and a knock of 96 from Hashim Amla helped South Africa to a lead of 381 before the rain arrived and forced captain AB de Villiers to declare.
England lost three late wickets in their chase of 382 - Alastair Cook (5), Alex Hales (1) and Nick Compton (6) all falling cheaply as the tourists finished on 52-3, 330 behind. Bavuma said: "Those were big wickets. Getting the wicket of Alastair Cook, their captain and a guy who leads from the front, is big.
"We would have loved to get [Joe] Root as well but
tomorrow [Tuesday] we will be coming with our head high, firing on all cylinders and looking to finish of the
game as soon as possible."We believe that the score we have set England is more than enough, especially on that wicket.
"We will be trying to exploit the variable bounce as
much as possible.”
