CADILLAC planning ultra-luxe BENTLEY rivals beyond 2020
General Motors’ premium arm Cadillac is preparing a super-luxury SUV and sedan pair to rival the likes of Bentley by the end of the next decade, according to a new report.
Following the release of the opulent Bentley Bentayga, along with its upcoming competition in the Aston Martin DBX, Lamborghini Urus and Rolls Royce SUV, Cadillac is reportedly planning its own player in the ultra-luxe SUV segment.
Likewise, the American luxury marque is understood to be planning a model that goes well beyond the reserve of the new CT6 , itself positioned as a rival to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series , among others.
The SUV is rumoured to wear the XT9 nameplate, sitting above the replacement for the XT8 Escalade SUV, though the XT9 would be the flagship crossover model in terms of luxury and price, if not in size.
The top-shelf XT9 is not due until sometime around 2027, GM Inside News reports – well after the rumoured launch of the XT8 Escalade replacement in 2020.
The report adds that the XT9 SUV is expected to be complemented by an even more luxurious limousine, positioned to take on Maybach variants in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class range.
Both the XT9 and CT9 are expected to enter around the USD$300,000 bracket ($390,000 AUD), competing with the ultra-luxury brands in terms of price if not in market cachet.
The Cadillac XT9 SUV isn’t expected to debut until 2027, while the CT9 limousine is rumoured for debut around 2029, a long way off from the release dates of most of their competitors.
