VOLKSWAGEN GOLF CABRIOLET Has Been Removed From Sale In AUSTRALIA

Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet axed

The Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet has been removed from sale in Australia. The drop-top VW Golf model was seen out by the 2015 Exclusive edition, which added extra equipment over the model that had been on sale since 2011.

The decision to drop the Golf Cabriolet in Australia comes after the brand put the black pen through the Beetle earlier this year, and follows a trend from the German maker to rid itself of convertible models following the axing of the Beetle convertible for the current-generation, and killing off the Eos (along with the Up! city car).

Volkswagen Australia public relations manager Kurt McGuiness said the car was phased out late last year, and that there are no plans to replace it, “at least with the current generation anyway”.

McGuiness said that the brand’s approach to rationalising its line-up has seen a lot of the smaller volume niche models removed from sale, with a focus on “reduced complexity” and “key models”.

The Golf Cabriolet was sold with a 1.4-litre turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine with 118kW of power and 240Nm of torque. It was available with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The company unveiled a mildly updated Golf Cabriolet in August last year.
