Robinson retires due to eye injury

Australia and NSW Waratahs prop Benn Robinson has retired from rugby after a career-ending eye injury.

Robinson suffered the injury against Brumbies in their Super Rugby clash at Allianz Stadium on April 16.

A veteran of 72 Tests, that led to Robinson announcing his retirement from the sport on Tuesday.

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika lauded the 31-year-old, who he coached to a Super Rugby title in 2014.

"Every player who has the honour of playing for the Wallabies has a responsibility to leave their own special mark on the jersey for the next generation to shape and build on, which Benn has certainly done," he said.

"He should be incredibly proud of what he achieved in his career, and excited about what lies ahead."

Robinson made his Test debut in 2006, while he last featured for the Wallabies against England at Twickenham in late 2014.
