Rio 2016: Dominant Bond and Murray ease to gold in men´s pair

Hamish Bond and Eric Murray produced yet another dominant performance to claim gold in the men's pair at Rio 2016.

The duo from New Zealand were 68 races unbeaten heading into Thursday's final, and promptly displayed their superiority to easily defend the title they won in 2012.

Bond and Murray broke clear of the field in the second 1000 metres, coming home in a time of six minutes and 59.71 seconds.

Their triumph marks New Zealand's first gold of the Rio Games, adding to the two silver medals won by the country.

South Africa's Lawrence Brittain and Shaun Keeling produced an impressive finish to claim the silver, crossing the line 2.80secs behind the Kiwi pair.

Italy's Giovanni Abagnale and Marco Di Costanzo took bronze ahead of Great Britain's Alan Sinclair and Stewart Innes.
