MTV Australia Apologizes After Offensive Tweet About Eva Longoria and America Ferrera Needing 'English Subtitles'
MTV Australia is under fire after sending an
offensive tweet from their official Twitter
account during Sunday night's Golden Globe
Awards.
"Where are the English subtitles? We have no
idea what @AmericaFerrera and @EvaLongoria
are saying," the news and entertainment
channel wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
Before presenting the award for best actor in a
television series, drama, American-born Latinas
Ferrera, 31, and Longoria, 40, joked about being
confused with other Hispanic actresses.
"Hi, I'm Eva Longoria, not Eva Mendes," said
Longoria.
"And hi, I'm America Ferrera, not Gina
Rodriguez," said Ferrera, who was previously
misidentified as the Jane the Virgin star on the
official Golden Globes Twitter account.
After receiving major backlash for the tweet,
MTV Australia deleted it and attempted to make
amends.
"Our Tweet was in reference to @EvaLongoria &
@AmericaFerrera's #GoldenGlobes joke. We
sincerely apologise for causing offence," they
wrote.
